هذا الكتاب هو آخر ما صدر عن الباحثة الدكتورة سلوى بالحاج صالح، وقد كتبت من قبل رسالتها عن المسيحية العربية التي شهدت صدى واستحساناً. الموضوع مهمّ عن خديجة لأنه يتعلق بالدراسات المحمدية، ولأنه يثير عدة مشاكل عن حال مكة قبيل الإسلام من مثل التجارة ووضعية المرأة الشريفة والوضع الديني. الأطروحة الأساسية من وجهة تاريخية في هذا الكتاب، هي أن خديجة لعبت دوراً ما في ظهور الإسلام وتثبيت النبوة... فقد كانت لها معرفة بالتوحيد والملائكة ومفهوم النبو والنبوة، وهذا ما نستنتجه أيضاً وبصورة منطقية من حيثيات معاشرتها للنبي عن البعثة إلى وفاتها، فخديجة وكذلك وسطها العائلي كان يعيران اهتماماً للقضايا الدينية، وما كانت بعثة محمد لتثير التعجب والتكذيب في ذهن خديجة. وإذا كانت خديجة هي التي حررت محمداً صلى الله عليه وسلم من الحاجة المادية، فقد لعبت دور الرفيقة ودور الأم، ووجد محمداً صلى الله عليه وسلم من الدعة جملة ينطلق إلى تفكيره وتأمله، وكذلك جواً من الحنان والمحبة والتفهم. وعلى كل، فكتاب الدكتورة سلوى بالحاج صالح يثير التساؤل ويطرح إشكاليات تاريخية مهمة وعميقة.
