ولدت "لوسيت لينادو" في أسرة يهودية في القاهرة عام 1958. وفي سن السادسة اضطرت عائلتها إلى الرحيل عن مصر والإنتقال إلى أميركا. تحكي الرواية عن الشوق الحارق الذي بقي تحت الجلد إلى القاهرة التي كانت، بالنسبة إلى العائلة، فردوساً حقيقياً. تقول: (لازلت أتذكر عندما غادر أبي مصر في ستينيات القرن الماضي، رغم مرور كل هذه السنوات، كيف كان يصرخ على ظهر المركب التي أٌلعت من الإسكتندرية مرددًا بالعامية المصرية (رجعونا مصر .. رجعونا مصر)، أعتقد أنه أدرك حينئذِ أن حياته وصلت إلى نهايتها، لابد أنه كان يعرف في دخيلة نفسه أنه لن يكون قادرًا على أن يتوائم مع عالم مابعد القاهرة...!
