إن الأخلاق مبادئ تتداولها المجتمعات، ويتواصى بها الأفراد، فترقى بالسلوك والمسلك ولقد تواردت موجبات الشرع على أن التحلي بمحاسن الأدب، ومكارم الأخلاق، والهدى الحسن، والسمت الصالح: سمة أهل الإسلام، ومن حسن إسلامه تجلى فيه التحلي بآدبه، والتخلي عن آفاته، ولهذا عناها العلماء بالبحث والتدوين، وأفردوها بالتأليف، إما على وجه العموم لكافة العلوم كأدب الدنيا والدين للمارودي، أو على وجه الخصوص، كآداب حملة القرآن الكريم، وآداب المحدث، وآداب المفتي، وآداب القاضي، وآداب المحتسب.
وما دوَّنه الدكتور جميل بن أحمد ظفر في سفره (خلق النبي العظيم) يعد مشاركة في بيان سنّة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقد جمع ودوَّنَ وبيَّنَ الآداب المرعية، والمسالك الشرعية.
ولقد اشتمل هذا الكتاب على مقدمة وتمهيد وثمانية فصول وخاتمة، وموضوعات الفصول على النحو التالي: الأول: خصال فطرية ومكتسبة، الثاني: سلوكيات إعتقادية تعبدية، الثالث: علاقات إجتماعية إنسانية، الرابع: أقوال طيبة مباركة، الخامس: مقومات معيشية أساسية، السادس: بقاع ومساكن حيوية، السابع: منافع مادية تعاونية، الثامن: وصايا وتوثيقات زواجية.
