في 1936 اغتالت الفاشية الإسبانية شاعر إسبانيا: "لوركا" ودفنته في قبر مجهول، لتسكت الصوت المدافع عن هذا الشعب الذي مزّقه الصراع بين اليمين واليسار، في عهد ما قبل فرانكو، وأثناء حياة هذا الشاعر القصيرة، كتب عدة مسرحيات تتراوح بين القصيرة والطويلة، بين الكوميديا والثلاث تراجيديات التي بين يدي القارئ. ولا غرو أن يكتب "لوركا" للمسرح، فقد ظل مغرماً، إن لم يقل مهووساً، بالمسرح منذ طفولته، فقد كان يمثل أمام أفراد وبيني دمي تمثل مسرحاً ويحرّك فيه شخوصه الخيالية. وظل يشاهد المسرح الحي حيثما يحل، ويقرأ الأعمال المسرحية مهما تعددت جنسيات كتابها، حتى في أحرج الأزمات وأصعب المواقف، كما عمل مخرج مسرح جوّال، ومن حصيلة تجاربه وثقافته هذه ظهرت مسرحياته الخالدة إضافة إلى أشعاره الرائعة. والتراجيديات الثلاث تدور حول المرأة ومشاكلها ونفسيتها في المجتمع الإسباني: فالعروس في عرس الدم تصطدم بالزواج من غير مَنْ تحب، ويرما تصارع في سبيل حقها الطبيعي في الإنجاب وبنات برناردا ألبا يبحثن عن الرجل - الزوج، وهن سجينات بيت أمهن: بيت برنارد ألبا. إن وضوح الفكرة في كل مسرحيّات "لوركا" لا يؤدي إلى تسطيح العمل الدرامي لديه، فالشخوص في أعماله حيّة، والفكرة تنبع من الفعل والشخوص والبيئة...إلخ. كما أن جمال البناء المسرحي وعقوبة الحوار وحسن إيقاعه وإرتباطه بكل شخصية، حسب طبيعتها، يضفي عمقاً وجمالاً على هذه التراجيديات.
