كتاب "أحكام صنعة الكلام" للوزير الأندلسي أبي القاسم محمد بن عبد الغفور الكلاعي من الكتب الهامة التي بقيت رغم عوادي الزمن التي اجتاحت الآثار الأندلسية. وضع المؤلف كتابه لدراسة النثر وفنونه، وبحث ضروب الكلام وأنواعه، قال: "وإنما خصصت المنثور لأنه الأصل الذي أمن العلماء -لامتزاجه بطبائعهم-ذهاب اسمه فأغفلوه، وضمن الفصحاء-لغلبته على أذهانهم بقاء وسمه فأهملوه. ولم يحكموا قوانينه، ولا حصروا أفانينه". ولكنه مع هذا يتطرق أحياناً إلى أمور تتعلق بالشعر، وينتهز الفرصة لتفصيل المتنبي، والإشارة إلى كتابه: "الانتصار لأبي الطيب". وسمى كتابه "أحكام صنعة الكلام" إشارة إلى أنه في موضوع النثر، وقد ورد اسم الكتاب في عبارة للمؤلف عارضة، فبعد أن ذكر رأياً استحسنه قال "وهذا حسن يجب أن يمتثله من أراد أحكام صنعة الكلام". ويمكن أن نلخص أهمية هذا الكتاب في أمور أربعة: أولاً: في الكتاب آراء مختلفة في كثير من أمور النقد والبلاغة، وبعض هذه الآراء خاص بالمؤلف، ومن اختراعه واستنباطه. ثانياً: وفيه إشارات إلى ما يقصد فكرة شعور الأندلسيين بتفوقهم وتقديمهم، بل مجاراتهم المشارقة ومشاركتهم، ثالثاً: وفيه إشارات إلى بعض الكتب المشرقية التي كانت متداولة في أيامه، وثبت بكتب المعري وأبي منصور الثعالبي التي وصلت إليهم. رابعاً: ونتبين من الكتاب بوضوح أسلوب المعري في النثر، وظهور طريقة المتنبي في الشعر على غيرها من أساليب الأندلسيين وطرائقهم.
