فـى محاولة ميدانية جادَّة لتَعَرُّف الميول القرائية لطلاب المرحلة الثانوية ، وُجِد هذا الكتاب ، - والذى يتمحور فى جزأين رئيسين : أحدهما نظرى والآخر ميدانى – ليلقى الضوء على الفنون التى يميل الطلاب إلى قراءتها ، وذلك بهدف تضمينها فى المحتوى الدراسى ؛ كى لا تكون المقررات الدراسية بمعزل عن الرغبات والميول والاتجاهات . ويعرض الكتاب فى محتواه من خلال أربعة فصول : يُؤصِّل الأول للقراءة وأهميتها للفرد والمجتمع ، ودورها فى بناء المجتمعات وتقدمها . ويعرض الثانى للقصة الأدبية وأنواعها ، بوصفها من أبرز الفنون الأدبية التى تستحوذ على الاهتمام والميل الفطرى للقراءة ، ولا سيما لدى الشباب . بينما يتناول الثالث طلاب المرحلة الثانوية وأهم خصائصهم النفسية والعقلية والاجتماعية ....، وذلك لمراعاتها عند إعداد المقررات الدراسية وتحديد الألوان القرائية التى سوف تُقَرر عليهم . ثم يشرح الفصل الأخير أسس الدراسة الميدانية ونتائجهـا ، وإعداد الأدوات وتطبيقها على عينة من الطلاب على مستوى الجمهورية بأكملها – من الذكور والإناث ، وفى الصفوف الثلاثة ، ومن شتى البيئات والطبقات والمستويات الاجتماعية والثقافية - .
