قال الفلاسفة: لا توجد مشكلة بدون حل، لكن توجد مشكلة بدون فهم. ويقول علماء الرياضيات: قبل أن تبحث عن حل أية مشكلة تأكد -أولاً- أنه موجود. وإذا كان موجوداً تأكد -ثانياً- أنه حلاً وحيداً، فإذا كان كذلك فابحث عما إذا كان حلاً مستقراً (Stable). الآن ما الذي يمكن عمله في حالة عدم وجود حل مضبوط (Exact). للمشكلة العلمية التي نريد حلها؟ الإجابة على هذا السؤال نجدها في هذا الكتاب، الذي يقدم طرق الحصول على الحلة التقريبية (Approximate Solutions)، والتي تكون قريبة (close to) -بقدر ما هو ممكن- من الحل المضبوط. ولأنها حلول تقريبية فالكتاب يقدم -أيضاً- حساب الخطأ (Error Estimation) بين الحل المضبوط والحل التقريبي. هذا، والحول التقريبية نوعان. فإن وجدت لكل قيم مجال الدالة أي إذا كان الحل التقريبي متصلاً (Continuous) سمين بالحلول التقريبية، وإن وجدت -فقط- عند بعض عقد (Nodes) مجال الدالة أي إذا كان الحل التقريب متقطعاً (Discrete) سمين بالحلول التقريبية العددية (Numerical Solutions). وهذا الكتاب هو ناتج خبرة أكثر من عشرين عاماً في تدريس مادة التحليل العددي، التي تقدم الطرق التقريبية والعددية وحساب الخطأ. وهو باللغة العربية مع ذكر للمصطلحات الإنجليزية، ويتكون من المقدمة، علاوةً على عشرة أبواب بدءً من الباب الصفرى إلى الباب التاسع. هذه الأبواب العشرة تكون متتابعة يحكمها المنطق العلمي في تقديم الموضوعات بأسلوب يتميز بالشمول والوضوح والكشف عن المفاهيم الهامة. ويحتوي الكتاب على عدد كبير من الأمثلة المحلولة بالتفصيل والمدعمة بالرسومات التوضيحية والجداول لمقارنة الحلو المختلفة. وهذا الكتاب يستفيد منه طلاب كليات الهندسة، والعلوم، والحاسبات والمعلومات، وكليات التربية، وكل المهتمين بالبرمجة وتحليل البيانات.
