هذا الكتاب.. يقدم قراءة دلالية في الفكر اللغوي التراثي، ويحاول أن يزاوج برؤية منهجية كرونولوجية بين عطاءات التراث العربي التي تشكل ركاما معرفيا مختلفا في المفاهيم العائدة إلى نمط العلم وحقل المعرفة المؤطر للمعنى من منطق وفلسفة وبلاغة وفقه وما إلى ذلك...وبين الأطر النظرية والقواعد التصنيفية التي استقرّت ضمن مدارس ونظريات في الحقل اللغوي الغربي، وما تحمله هذه المدارس والنظريات من مفاهيم تخص المعنى وتجلياته في المقول اللفظي وفي العوالم الدلالية على اختلاف أصنافها وأشكالها ذلك أن السؤال الذي ظل يشغل اهتمام العلماء اللغويين هو أين يتمظهر المعنى، أو بالأحرى أين يوجد المعنى: هل في الأذهان أم في المفاهيم الكبرى أم في العوالم الخارجية أم في العوالم الدلالية الافتراضية ؟ هذا التساؤل يجعل علم الدلالة يشكل مفترق الطرق والمناهج بين شتى العلوم التي تبحث عن حقيقة المعنى وصوره، ويقود ذلك إلى البحث في الوظائف الدلالية التي تضطلع بها اللغة باعتبارها وسيلة اتصال وإبلاغ ضمن النظام اللغوي الإعلامي، ووسيلة شرح وتفسير ضمن النظام غير اللغوي الإشاري ووسيلة إيحاء وترميز ضمن الخطاب الأدبي الفني الجمالي...
