يأتي كتاب "معركة السلام" الكتاب الأخير للسياسي شمعون بيريس حتى وقت ترجمته، ومن الكتاب يستشف القارئ الصفة السياسية التي تحل بها المؤلف ومكامن نظرته إلى العالم الآخر بما له وعليه من جهة، وما تعنيه معركة السلام من نضال وما تنم عن خير إن جاءت نعته من جهة أخرى. لقد تجلت الشخصيات الصهيونية جميعها في هذا الكتاب صغيرها وكبيرها، معروفها ومنكرها حتى ليتصدر المرء أنه يستعرض سلسلة من قادة التاريخ العظام، بل إن حتى تلك الشخصيات التي سبق لها، أن كونت عصابات إرهابية أمثال اسحق شامير في عصابته "مستيرن" أو مفاهيم يبغى قد ظهرت نقاط صافها هنا فقط إذا ما تعلف الأمر بالخلافات السياسية داخل إسرائيل. وقد احتوى الكتاب على الكثير من الأضاليل الصهيونية مثل وصف الفلسطينيين بالإرهابيين وبأن اليهود صنّاع سلام وبأن عبد الناصر نازي كهتلر وهكذا، بيد أن الكتاب قد احتوى في معظم فصوله على تحليل ثاقب ورؤية عميقة لواقع الأحداث فأنمّ بذلك عن طبيعة عقلية مؤلفه وبعده السياسي. ويتجلى منه أيضاً أن قادة اليهود باختلاف مشاربهم ومنابتهم قد تشاطروا هدفاً واحداً هو "دولة إسرائيل" إنهم قد وضعوا كل خلافاتهم جانباً إذا تعلق الأمر بأمنهم ودولتهم ومصلحتهم.
