هذا هو المجلد الخامس من سلسلة شعراء العرب، فقد سبق وأن كتب يوسف الطريفي المجلدات الأربعة الأولى عن شعراء العرب، فكان الأول في العصر الجاهلي، والثاني في عصر صدر الإسلام والخلفاء الراشدين، والثالث في العصر الأموي، والرابع في العصر العباسي، ثم جاء الكتاب الخامس عن الشعر في المغرب والأندلس تتويجاً لإكمال السلسلة. لقد أخذ تأليف هذا الكتاب جهداً كبيراً من الباحث وبحثاً وتقصياً ووقتاً بقدر حجم الشعر في بلاد المغرب والأندلس، وكثرة عدد الشعراء، وقد واجهته صعوبات كثيرة في جمع المعلومات من جهة، واختيار الأسماء وأشعارهم من جهة أخرى، وترتيب الفهرس من جهة ثالثة. وقد قدم للكتاب بتثبيت خريطة للأندلس، توضح الفتوحات والمدن والأنهار في المنطقة الرائعة على هذه الأرض الخضراء، ثم سجل تمهيداً لعناصر السكان وتمازج أفكارهم السياسية وحياتهم الاجتماعية والفكرية والبيئية التي أنتجت هذا العدد الكبير من الشعراء الذين استنشقوا أريج الأزهار والورود والثمار لينتجوا كل هذه الدرر والمذهبات سواء كانت قصائد طويلة أو مقطعات أو موشحات أو زجل تروق للعين وتطرب الأذن وتنعش البدن.
