هذا كتاب فريد فى بابه، جليل فى قدره، لو أن الإمام النبهانى لم يكتب غيره لكفاه، ليكون شاهدًا على عظيم محبته لسيدنا رسول الله، وعلى أنه - إن شاء الله تعالى - قد نال به أعلى درجات القرب، فى الفردوس الأعلى من الجنة مع النبيين والصديقين.. تحقيقًا لقوله -صلى الله عليه وسلم- : "المرء مع من أحب". ولقد قدّم له بمقدمة جامعة، مشتملة على فوائد جمة أغنت عن أى كلام بعدها.. والحمد لله الذى وفقنا لطبع هذا الكتاب، حتى نتعلق بأذيال من فازوا بخدمة الجناب المحمدى الأعظم، عسى أن يحشرنا الله فى زمرتهم، وما ذلك على الله بمستبعد. وقد اعتمدنا فى صف هذه الطبعة على طبعة دار الكتب العلمية ببيروت، وقدمنا لها بتعريف وافٍ بالإمام المؤلف - رضى الله عنه - وكذلك ضمّنّا الكتاب تعريفًا بأصحاب الثناء فى الهامش، وهو الأمر الذى أصبحت الحاجة إليه ماسة فى زماننا هذا؛ إذ أصبح كثير من علماء الأمة العاملين وأوليائها الصالحين وقادتها المصلحين ودعاتها الصادقين مجهولين لدى الكثير من الناس، فلما خلت حياة المسلمين من معرفة أعلام الأمة الحقيقيين استبدلوها بمعرفة كل زائف وفاسد ومفسد، وهو ما لا يخفى ضرره على دين الناس وآخرتهم. ولقد راعينا أن يكون التعريف بكل واحد من الأعلام موجزًا دون إخلال، مع دلالة القارئ على بعض المراجع التى يرجع إليها من يريد الاستزادة. وبعض الأعلام الذين لم يتيسر لنا الحصول على تراجم لهم أشرنا إلى ذلك فى الهامش طالبين ممن يوفقه الله إلى الحصول على ما يملأ ذلك الفراغ أن يبعث بمعلوماته إلينا حتى نكمل النقص فى الطبعات التالية إن شاء الله رب العالمين.
