يعد مالك بن نبي من أعلام الفكر العقلاني المعاصر، والذي نذر فكره في خدمة القضايا الإنسانية العادلة ابتداء من القضية الجزائرية إلى القضايا القومية والإسلامية وانتهاء بمعضلات العالم الثالث، وقد اهتم كالك بن نبي في كتاباته بتتبع شروط النهضة للمجتمع الإسلامي، يقول الكاتب: "ورغم التعتيم والتهميش الذي مورس ضده حيا وميتا، إلا أن فكره بقي حيًا يُقرأ وأفكاره ما زالت تنبض بالحيوية والفعالية، تتداولها أجيال ما بعد الاستقلال في الجزائر وفي العالم الإسلامي برمته". تتناول دراسة الأستاذ خالد النجار ترجمة لسيرة المفكر الجزائري "مالك بن نبي"؛ وعرض لأهم ملامح مشروعه الإصلاحي ذي الصبغة الإسلامية، ومجهوداته إلى جانب الشيخ "عبدالحميد بن باديس" في بعث الصحوة الإسلامية في المغرب الإسلامي ومواكبة موجة العصرانية التي غطت العالم الغربي وقتذاك، وقد وضع الكاتب في خاتمة ترجمته عدة تنبيهات لابد للقارئ من الإلمام بها خلال تتبعه مشروع مالك بن نبي الإصلاحي، يقول الكاتب: وقبل أن ننهي هذه القراءة لفكر مالك بن نبي لا بد من التنبه لأمور: 1- هذه السلبيات والأخطاء يجب أن لا تمنعنا من الاستفادة من الإيجابيات، فهذا المفكر خبير في نهضة المجتمعات وأمراض المسلم المعاصر. وكأني أسمع بعض المسلمين يقولون: ما دامت هذه آراؤه فما الفائدة من قراءة كتبه؟ وهذا خطأ فادح منهم، فنحن نقرأ لأعداء الإسلام ونستفيد منهم؛ فكيف بمفكر كان يسعى - حسب جهده - لخير المسلمين، وإن أخطأ في مواضع. 2- إن مالك بن نبي شخصية كبيرة، فهو يتراجع عن الخطأ إذا تبين له، لقد نصح "جمعية العلماء" في الجزائر بصدق وقال كلاماً دقيقاً في هذا (لقد كان على الحركة الإسلامية أن تبقى متعالية على أوحال السياسة والمعامع الانتخابية) (وبأي غنيمة أراد العلماء أن يرجعوا من هناك وهم يعلمون أن مفتاح القضية في روح الأمة لا في مكان آخر) [1] ، وهو يقصد سير العلماء في القافلة السياسية عام (1936م).
