الكتاب من تحقيق عبد الرحمن بدوي. قال الشيخ محمد رضا الشبيبي بعنوان: جوانب متعددة من ابن سينا كتاب المباحثات مجموعة أسئلة وأجوبة ورسائل متبادلة بين ابن سينا وبعض أصحابه تختلف نسخها وترتيب موادها وطريقة تأليفها بحيث لا يعلم على التحقيق من جمعها ولا من أطلق اسم المباحثات عليها وقد نظم تلميذه الجوزجاني فهرسا معروفا لكتبه عد بينها كتاب المباحثات. وردت في الكتاب أسماء جماعة من أصحاب الشيخ منها " بهمنيار " وهو يكثر من توجيه الأسئلة ويعني الشيخ بالإجابة عن أسئلته وليس لنا دليل قاطع على تعيين من عني بجمع الكتاب من بين هؤلاء وإن اشتهر أنه بهمنيار وإذا لاحظنا كثرة التفاوت والفروق البعيدة بين نسخ المباحثات جاز لنا أن نقول: إن جماعة من أصحابه وفي مقدمتهم بهمنيار عنوا بجمع رسائله وأجوبته المدونة في الكتاب كل على طريقته ووسائله الخاصة ولهذه الناحية اختلفت النسخ والأصول حتى لا نجد أحيانا شبها ما بين نسخة وأخرى والظاهر أن هذا الكتاب مؤلف من مجموع ما وجد متفرقا في آثار بهمنيار وأستاذه من جزازات ومن أجوبة الشيخ عن رسائله إليه وبعضها بخط الشيخ وبعضها بخط بعض تلاميذه ووراقيه وفي المباحثات فوائد عن باقي كتب الشيخ مثل الإشارات والشفاء والإنصاف والفلسفة المشرقية وقد رد أبو علي في بعض أجوبته هذه على بعض معاصريه ممن كان يناقش فلسفته ولكنه تناولهم بلهجة جافة ما كنا نتوقع صدورها منه وفي الكتاب أيضا نبذ يستفاد منها شئ لم يعرف من قبل عن أحوال الشيخ الرئيس. يستفاد من دراسة المباحثات - فيما نرى - فوائد جمة أهمها الأمور الآتية: 1 - دلالة بعض نصوص الكتاب على ناحية طريفة من سيرة ابن سينا وأخلاقه. 2 - كشف عن خطر الصراع بينه وبين فلاسفة عصره. 3 - أسلوب الشيخ في ترسله.
