بابلو بيكاسو (1881-1973) شخصية فذة شغلت القرن العشرين برمته، وظلت سيرته وآراؤه وأعماله، التي قلبت موازين الجمال، تحتل حيزاً كبيراً من الثقافة المعاصرة، ويعد النجاح الفريد، الذي حققه بيكاسو في أثناء حياته، أمراً لم يسبق له مثيل في تاريخ الفن، فقد كان على حد تعبير أمين متحف اللوفر، أول فنان في العالم يشهد دخول أعماله إلى متحف اللوفر.
على الرغم من كل ما كتب عن عبقرية "بابلو بيكاسو" وأعماله وما كتب ضده أيضاً، فإن الجانب الآخر من شخصيته لم يعرف عنه، فقد كان ذلك الوجه من حياته مخفياً إلا عن الأشخاص الذين كانوا على تماس حقيقي معه، ومنهم "فراسوازجيلو" التي عاشت معه قرابة عشر سنوات. وهي في هذا الكتاب تحكي قصتها وقصته معاً بصراحة متناهية، وبصيرة نافذة. فهي أول من أمعن في الكشف عن شخصية بيكاسو بوجهيها الفني والإنساني: فهو عبقري متقلب المزاج، شكاك وملول، فصيح اللسان، شديد القلق، وهو رجل لم يتوقف عن محاربة الزمن والأعراف التقليدية، ولم يتوقف عن الإبداع، وقد وجدت في شخصية "كالتون ليك"، الصحفي الأميركي المتتبع لحياة بيكاسو وآثاره، خير معين على مشاركتها في نشر هذا الكتاب.
