مرض الصرع مرض قديم جداً، كما تدل على ذلك الألفاظ المدللة عليه في العربية والإغريقية، وهناك بنيات تاريخية عن وجود المرض حتى قبل هاتين الحضارتين، ففي قانون حمورابي نجد مادة خاصة تتعلق بالصرع، كما نجد وصفاً للصرع في الرقوق الطينية للحضارة الأشورية، وفي بلاد اليونان القديم، وقبل أن تطلق لفظة الصرع على المرض بقرون طويلة، أطلق مصطلح (المرض الرباني أو المرض السماوي (Divine Sickness) قاسم للمرض، وهي تسمية تتوه بأن الصرع يتسبب عن إرادة سماوية أو بفعل قوى خارقة. والصرع هو عارض ناجم عن إطلاق مؤقت ومفرط للحركة العصبية في الدماغ، والناجمة عن أسباب من داخل الرأس أو خارجه، ويتصف الصرع بنوبات محددة والتي تميل إلى التكرار، وتتسم باضطرابات في الحركة أو الإحساس، أو السلوك، أو الوعي، أو المزاج، أو الإدراك، أو الفكر، أو أي تجمع من هذه الأعراض. في هذا الإطار يأتي هذا الكتاب عن مرض الصرع، جمع المؤلف في منهجيته بين النص الأكاديمي وبين أسلوب السؤال والجواب بحيث يفي بحاجات طالبي المعرفة من الجانبين الأكاديمي والعملي والكتاب هو واحد في سلسلة المؤلف أبواب العقل الموصدة والذي يفتح من خلالها نوافذ على فعاليات العقل الإنساني التي تظل بحاجة إلى البحث والدراسة المستمرين ما دام العقل البشري فعالاً يعطي دائماً وأبدا.
