يتناول هذا الكتاب في ما يتناول الحروب الثلاثة الرئيسية التي وقعت خلال عام 1982 ونعني بها الحرب بين إسرائيل ومنظمة التحرير الفلسطينية وسوريا، والحرب بين إيران والعراق، والحرب بين الأرجنتين وبريطانيا، وموقف كل من الاتحاد السوفياتي والولايات المتحدة من هذه الحروب التي انتهى بعضها وبعضها الآخر ما زال مستعراً يلتهم المال والرجال والعتاد. كما يتناول الكتاب تحليل بعض الإضطرابات والمصادمات الإقليمية الأخرى كتلك الكائنة بين الثوار الأفغانيين والروس أو بين الفيتناميين وقوات المقاومة الكامبودية أو تلك القائمة بين كوريا الشمالية وكوريا الجنوبية والصدام بين أثيوبيا والصومال، والمغرب والبوليسادور ونيكاراغوا وغيرهما. كما يحلل كذلك العلاقات داخل كل من حلف شمال الأطلسي (ناتو) وحلق وأرسو دون أن يهمل شؤون العالم الاقتصادية الأمنية والسياسية والتسليحية.
