ولد أحمد شفيق بهجت في 15 نوفمبر 1932 بالقاهرة، وتوفى 11 ديسمبر 2011متزوج وله ابنان, حصل على ليسانس حقوق من جامعة القاهرة.
كاتب صحفي عمل صحفيًا بجريدة أخبار اليوم (1955)، ومجلة صباح الخير (1957)، وجريدة الأهرام (1958) ثم رئيس مجلس الإدارة ورئيس تحرير مجلة الإذاعة والتليفزيون (1976)..
ونائب رئيس التحرير للشئون الفنية بجريدة الأهرام منذ (1982) يكتب عمود "صندوق الدنيا" بجريدة الأهرام.
عضو نقابة الصحفيين وله أكثر من عشرين مؤلفًا دينيًا وأدبيًا، منها: أنبياء الله، بحار الحب عند الصوفية، مذكرات صائم، مذكرات زوج، أحسن القصص، الطريق إلى الله، قميص يوسف، وغيرها.
له برنامج إذاعي يومي بعنوان: كلمتين وبس

عندما يكتب الإنسان مذكراته فهذا يعنى أن هناك شيئًا هامًا يريد من الآخرين معرفته، وأنا لا أصدق هذا الإحساس بالأهمية. لم يخامرني هذا الإحساس في البيت أو في العمل، فأنا رجل متزوج في البيت، ولى أكثر من رئيس في العمل، وأنا لا أشكو سوى البلادة والوحدة، ولقد قررت اليوم أن أكتب مذكراتي. إن الكتابة عمل مسكر ورائع، فعندما يكتب المرء يشعر بأنه ليس وحيدًا في هذا العالم. لكنني لا أكتب لهذا السبب، إنني أكتب لأنني أحس أن كل إنسان في العالم قد أضحى جزيرة منفصلة ليس بينها وبين الآخرين اتصال، هذه المذكرات ليست إلاَّ محاولة يائسة للتلويح والصراخ أمام ما نتصور أنه سفينة مارة، بينما هو في حقيقة الأمر سراب مائي. وسيبقى لنا من الحوار مع السراب صمت عظيم
