هذا الكتاب ترجمة كاملة للجزء الثانى من كتاب طبقات ناصرى للمؤرخ الفارسى "منهاج الدين عثمان بن سراج الدين الجوزجانى"، وهذا الجزء يحتوى على طبقتين: طبقة عن الملوك الشمسية أى الملوك المنسوبين إلى السلطان شمس الدين والذين كانوا فى الأصل عبيدًا ثم تدرجوا فى مناصب البلاط حتى أصبحوا أصحاب إقطاعات فى أنحاء الهند وصاروا ملوكًا تابعين للسلطان الذى يقيم فى دهلى، وفى هذه الطبقة يكتب عن كل ملك منهم؛ فيذكر أوصافه فى البداية ثم المناصب التى تدرج فيها والحروب التى اشترك فيها. والمصدر الأساسى فى هذه الطبقة هو المؤلف نفسه؛ لأنه كان شاهد عيان واشترك اشتراكًا فعليًا فى الأحداث، وقد انفرد "منهاج" بالتأريخ لملوك الغور (السلاطين الشمسية وملوكهم)؛ لذلك لقب بمؤرخ بلاط الغور. أما الطبقة الأخرى فعن تاريخ المغول، وتصور جو الفزع العام الذى اجتاح العالم الإسلامى بسبب الغزو المغولى، وقد قدم منهاج وصفًا تفصيليًا لأحداث مهمة كثيرة اشترك فى بعضها كما أورد الروايات التى سمعها وسجل التواريخ الخاصة بكثير من الأحداث المهمة، وقد كتب هذه الطبقة وما زالت الأحداث تتلاحق فى أرجاء العالم الإسلامى؛ لذلك اعتبر تأريخه للمغول من الأعمال المهمة فى هذا المجال.
