موقفان في العالم العربي من العولمة؛ أحدهما مندد بها ورافض لها كلية، وآخر ممجد لها متمنٍّ أن يندمج الوطن العربي فيها. والعولمة في الحقيقة واقع موضوعي لا سبيل إلى إنكاره وإلغائه بمنطق الرغبة الذاتية، كما لا يجوز الخضوع لها خضوعاً سلبياً. فالمطلوب وعي بهذه العولمة، وقبول مبدئي وعملي بها، وسعي استراتيجي متعدد المراحل للاندماج الناجع فيها، والرد الإيجابي على تحدياتها. إن مواجهة جبروت العولمة تستلزم تجاوز الأحادية القطرية واعتماد التكتلات التجارية والجمركية، والتكامل الاقتصادي على الصعيد الإقليمي. لقد أُغرقت السوق العالمية بالمنتجات المعولمة من السيارات إلى الموسيقا وألعاب الأطفال، وإن نجت مع ذلك من هذا الطوفان بعض الخصوصيات الثقافية والمميزات الوطنية، فإن كان الواقع يشهد أن ثمة طغياناً على التمايزات القومية والثقافية، فإنه شاهد كذلك على بقاء بعض الخصوصيات الإقليمية. تدل المؤشرات الاقتصادية في نطاق العولمة أن ثمة تمايزات كبيرة ضد الشعوب ذاتها، إن منظري العولمة لا يستطيعون أن يتصوروا إلا بصعوبة تعددية للثقافات وأنظمة مجتمعية في العالم. ومن الواضح أن للعولمة علاقات وثيقة بمنظومة الطاقة، وأن مخزون الطاقة من نفط وغاز يتعرض للاستنزاف، وأن المزيد من استخدام الطاقة سيؤدي إلى انهيار للمناخ، كما أن العاملين في الأسواق المالية لا يعرف جشعهم حدوداً يمكن إن تجاوزناها أن تقذف بنا جميعاً في أتون أزمة عالمية. فالعولمة أصبحت عولمة مالية مرتبطة بشكل وثيق بمنظومة الطاقة المعولمة. والإشكال يكمن في كيفية إدارة هذه الأسواق والأزمات دون تدمير اقتصادات، تدمير سيؤدي إلى كوارث اجتماعية وسياسية.
