تعتبر المباغتة في طليعة الأسلحة التي يتسلح بها المقاتل للقضاء على خصمه وتدمير عدوه. وقد عكفت الأبحاث والدراسات العصرية على تحقيق هدف مزدوج. أولهما: تطوير المباغتة، وثانيهما: إنقاص تأثيرها. وتبقى المباغتة في فكرتها وتنفيذها بعملية الخداع والتمويه على نحو ما كانت عليه منذ آلاف السنين. لكنت المباغتة البدائية إذا كانت ترتبط بقدرة المقاتل أو المقاتلين على خداع الخصم وتضليله، فإنها اليوم أشد تعقيداً. وقد قسمت المباغتة (نظرياً) إلى "مباغتة تكتيكية" و"مباغتة عملياتية، "مباغتة استراتيجية". ومع تطور أساليب التضليل والخداع بقي حسم الصراع مرتبطاً بالقدرة الإبداعية للقادة والمنفذين من أجل (مباغتة الخصم) أو الحد من تأثير (مباغتته). ولقد تطورت الحروب المحدودة بتأثير الرعب من الأسلحة الدفينة، وعرف العالم العربي أشكالاً متلاحقة من هذه الحروب عن طريق الصراع العربي-الإسرائيلي، وكان للمباغتة في هذه الحروب دورها المعروق، من هنا تظهر أهمية دراسة التجربة التاريخية للمباغتة وتطوراتها في الأزمنة الحاضرة وهذا ما تقرؤه مشروحاً في هذا الكتاب.
