تصدر الشيخ الإمام حركة فكرية نهضوية شملت الحركة الإصلاحية السلفية كافة أنحاء البلاد، فكانت جمعية علماء المسلمين الجزائريين التي ترأسها في نادي الترقي بالجزائر العاصمة في 8 ماي 1931 إلى يوم التحاقه بالرفيق الأعلى في 16 أفريل 1940، جمعية ثقافية دينية في مظهرها سياسية في مراميها وقاصدها. التف حوله رجال آمنوا بأن نهضة الجزائر لن تكون إلاَ بنهضتها الفكرية والإجتماعية. فنشأت إلى جانب النخبة الناطقة باللغة الفرنيسة نخبة عربية اللسان إسلامية العقيدة، إصلاحية المنهج بادرت بتأسيس المدارس والساجد الحرة والنوادي الثقافية والفنية والرياضية... فدخلت الجزائر عهداً جديدًا كان الفضل فيه للإمام عبد الحميد بن باديس، زارع العلم قائد الرجال قدوة البلاد..ماذا نعرف عن هذا الشيخ العجوز الشاب الذي فتح أعين شباب ’ الجزائر المسلمة’ على العلوم الدينية والكونية ودعاهم إلى ان يكونوا أبناء عصرهم وأن ينظروا إلى المستقبل الذي لاتحده حدود ولا هو مرتبط بثقافة او جنس؟
