انطلق المؤلف في دراسته للمرجعيات التاريخية والسياسية من التقرير المقدم للمؤتمر الثاني لحركة انتصار الحريات الديمقراطية المنعقد بتاريخ الرابع والخامس والسادس من أبريل عام 1953 كوثيقة مرجعية· ويؤكد الكاتب في هذا الصدد إلى أنه ليس هناك وثيقة تضاهيها قبلها ولا بعدها، وذلك لما اشتملت عليه من ''شمولية النظرة وعمق الفهم لواقع الجزائر ومستقبلها، ووسع التصور للمحيطين الإقليمي والدولي ولموازين القوى فيهما، وحسن إدراك العمل السياسي ومختلف أوجه النضال الحزبي لبلوغ الهدف المنشود''· وأضاف الباحث بأن هذه الوثيقة تترجم ما بلغته حركة انتصار الحريات الديمقراطية من نضج سياسي وما وصلت إليه من الاستيفاء من حيث الانتظام والبناء ومن الاكتمال من حيث التجربة الحزبية والرصيد الحزبي· وأشار عبد الحميد زوزو إلى أن التفكير في مستقبل الجزائر المستقلة لم يكن حكرا على مناضلي حركة انتصار الحريات الديمقراطية، وإنما شاركهم في ذلك أصحاب الاتجاهات الأخرى كالاتحاد الديمقراطي للبيان الجزائري والعلماء في كل المبادئ. الجدير بالذكر أن المؤلف عبد الحميد زوزو مؤرخ وعضو سابق بمجلس الأمة الجزائري.
