جلان. إله يواجه قدره. بادرة ودّ تخفي خيانة… لا تزال قبلة يهوذا واحدة من أنذل البوادر التي عرفها التاريخ، ومن أكثرها غموضاً أيضاً… لماذا أقدم أحد الاثني عشر تلميذاً، وأكثرهم قرباً إلى يسوع، على بيع معلمه؟ الجشع الذي اعتبرت النصوص المقدسة أنه كان الدافع إلى ذلك لا يثبت أمام التحليل: إن يهوذا، المؤتمن على كيس مال الرسل، والحائز بالتالي على ثقة يسوع التامة، كان يتصرف يومياً بمبالغ أهم بكثير من الثلاثين ديناراً التي يقال أنها عُرضت عليه… ليس يوجد حول موت يسوع سوى أمر واحد موثوق هو موته على الصليب، وهو العقاب المخصص للخارجين على النظام الروماني. ويبدو اليوم مؤكداً أنه كان في المقاومة اليهودية للاحتلال الروماني، دوراً أكثر نشاطاً بكثير مما يتراءى من خلال الأناجيل الأولى، هذه التي كُتبت لأجل مسيحيي روما. أوَليس من الأرجح أن يهوذا "الشرير" كان رفيق نضال أميناً ومتحمساً؟ إلى أن… بعد أن استوعب أوبير برولونجو أحدث الدراسات التي تناولت هذا الموضوع، وبعد أن استعرض حياة يهوذا بكاملها، وبعد أن بثّ حياة قصصية حقيقية في صور جامدة غالباً، فإنه قد توصل إلى تكوين رأي هو أقرب ما يكون إلى الحقيقة: كان يهوذا صديقاً صادقاً ليسوع، لكنه خانه عندما ابتعد مفهوم كل منهما عن مفهوم الآخر حول الكفاح الواجب خوضه معاً. ويطرح خلافهما هذا على بساط البحث مسألة الثورة بكاملها: هل يجب خوضها بواسطة السلاح، كما يريد يهوذا، أم بالانتظار، بواسطة الصلاة ورجاء عالم آخر يعوض عن المظالم التي يعانيها البشر على هذه الأرض، كما يدعو يسوع؟ من خلال إعادة تكوين فلسطين ذلك الزمان، نلمح تباشير تغيُّر في المنظور، وربما ولادة تاريخ جديد يكتب أمام عيوننا.
