كان مرحلة من مراحل بروز دور حركة الجهاد الإسلامي في الضفة الغربية المحتلة، كان مُنظّرا ومفكرا في عالم اختلطت فيه الألوان وتباينت الرؤى والتحليلات، فكان رجلا يعشق الدم كما أراد له والده أن يكون، فسماه نعمان فكان من معنى اسمه "الدم ، إنه الشهيد القائد نعمان طحاينة , كان نعمان حقا الرجل الصامت في أعماله، فقد كان يعمل بصمت يرفض الظهور العلني الذي يعتبره أداة للقتل السريع، قاد الحركة في الضفة الغربية وعمل على إنشاء عدة مؤسسات لها، فكان رجلا مارداً مقاتلاً مجاهداً من أجل مشروع إسلامي نهضوي تجديدي.كان نعمان أينما ذهب له من الثقافة بصمة، اعتقل لدى قوات الاحتلال الصهيوني ما يقارب من أربع سنوات ، فكان له الأثر في تحويل السجن إلى مركز ثقافي. اعتقلته أجهزة "أمن" السلطة، وكان من أوائل القيادات الذين يتم اعتقالهم آنذاك وأمضى ما يقارب السنتين في سجونها.
