بالرغم من أن كلمة الحق كثيرة التردد في اللغة اليومية، ولا يجد الشخص العادي صعوبة في الإحساس بمدلولها، إلا أن هذه الفكرة في اللغة القانونية كانت مثار خلاف شديد بين الفقهاء، فمن الفقهاء من ذهب إلى عدم جدواها، بل إلى عدم وجودها القانوني. لكن الممارسة العملية والغالبية العظمى ما زالت تقر بوجود هذه الفكرة، وإن اختلفوا حول مدلولها ومعناها. ويهتم هذا الكتاب إدراج الآراء التي قالت بوجود كلمة الحق وبمدلولها كما ويهتم من ناحية أخرى بتحديد الآراء المعارضة وأسبابها بعد ذلك يحاول إثبات تعريف للحق وذلك من خلال غرضه لفكرة الحق وأنواعه، وفي مرحلة لاحقة يتحدث عن أركان الحق (صاحب الحق ومحله)، كما ويتحدث عن نشوء الحق واستعماله وأوجه وانقضائه وهنا يتوقف عند مصادر الحق وكيفية إثباته ثم يعرض لاستعمال الحق وكيفية حمايته، وأخيراً يبين أسباب انقضاء الحقوق، سواء أكانت حقوقاً عينية أو حقوقاً شخصية... وهكذا يأتي هذا الكتاب وهو الثاني من سلسلة المدخل إلى القانون لدراسة نظرية الحق من كافة جوانبها وهدفه تقديم دراسة شاملة تفيد طلاب الحقوق وجميع العاملين في هذا المجال.
