الدبلة والإكليل هو كتاب عن طقس الخِبطة والزَّواج. والزواج المسيحي هو سرٌ عظيم إذا فُهم على أنه مثال لاقتران المسيح بكنيسته. فحين يتشبَّه العريس بالمسيح في كل شيء إزاء عروسته، تجد العروسة نفسها مُلزَمة أن تتشبَّه بالكنيسة في كل شيء إزاء عريسها. وإذا بدأ الزواج بممارسة دور المسيح في بيتهن مارست الزَّوجة دور الكنيسة معه. فكلما تأصَّل إدراك العريس وعروسته للعلاقة السرِّية التي تربط الكنيسة بالمسيح له المجد، والمسيح بكنيسته، تغلغل هذا الإدراك في أعماقهما برؤية قلبيَّة لاذهنيَّة فحسب، ارتقى زواجهما ارتقاءً روحياً يبلغ بهما إلى كمال الحب، وفي كمال الحب بمعناه المسيحي تنتفي كل مظاهر الذاتيَّة بينهما، فيصير كل ما للعريس لعروسته، وكل ما للعروسة لعريسها، لأن الحب في المسيحيَّة بذل وتضحية وعطاء، وفي غيرها شهوة وذاتيَّة واقتناء
