يمزج شيف . ك . كومار مؤلف هذه الرواية بين طقوس الموت ، ومحارق الجثث ، وأحلام الخلود ، لكن حلمه بالخلود يختلف عن أي حلم آخر ، يقول في أحد فصول روايته : " نبتهج نحن بني البشر كثيراً بفكرة خلود الروح . جميع الأديان تقريباً تؤكد بقاءها بعد فناء الجسد ، ولكنني أستطيع أن أقول إن خلود الروح يمكن أن يكون لعنة حقيقية ، بلاء ، طائراً في عنق الإنسان . ألا ليت الفرد منا ينتهي تماماً بالموت .. جسداً وروحاً ، ليته ينتزع مثل النبات جذراً وساقاً ويلقي به في سلة المهملات …. ان بقاء روح الإنسان بعد الموت يشبه عذاب جندي جريح في خندق ، أصابته شظية ، وراح يذوي دون أن تلوح لعذابه نهاية " . كومار شاعر وروائي وكاتب مسرحي ومترجم هندي ، ولد لأسرة هندوسية في " لاهور " حيث تلقى تعليمه حتى درجة الماجستير عمل بالإذاعة والتدريس ، ورأس تحرير مجلة أدبية ، وحصل على الدكتوراه من كمبردج . يعيش الآن في حيدر أباد مع أسرته ، ويقسم وقته بين القراءة والكتابة والعمل في الحديقة والاستماع الى الموسيقى ومراقبة الطيور .
