في هذا الكتاب المبهج والممتع والرائع، يظهر لنا أورورك، بأسلوبه الرشيق الساخر، السبب الذي جعل سميث معاصراً ووثيق الصلة بالواقع الراهن، ولماذا بدا الواضح والجلي والسائد الآن ثوريَّاً ومختلفاً وجديداً، ولماذا يحظى تقسيم العمل وحرية التجارة والسعي وراء المصلحة الشخصية، بأهمية حيوية وأساسية وضرورية لسعادة البشر ورفاهيتهم؛ ثم يتابع ليثبت أن سيمث أبعد ما يكون عن الرمز المجسد للرأسمالية، فهو في الحقيقة فيلسوف أخلاقي مدافع عن الحرية؛ ومثلما يقول أورورك: "بدا الأمر وكأن سميث، بعد أن أثبت قدرتنا كلنا على جني مزيد من المال، أراد إثبات أن المال لا يشتري السعادة، لا، لا يشتري السعادة؛ بل يؤجرها".
