كان كتاب "عزلة غابرييل غارسيا ماركيز" تحقيقاً صحافياً بسيطاً، في البداية وكان أول مقال موسع عن ماركيز في الصحافة اليومية. ولكنه أصبح بعدئذٍ نواة مقالات أخرى نشرت في المجلات والجرائد، ثم صار كراساً صغيراً يضم بين دفتيه هذا التحللي الشخصي لـ ميغيل فرنانديز –برايسو الذي سوف يأسر قارئه بما يمتلكه من أسلوب مباشر وبسيط (خلاصة إيديولوجية ماركيز الأدبية والشخصية). يقوم الكتاب على الحوار الذي جمع المؤلف بـ "غابو" كما يحلو لأصدقاء ماركيز أن يدعوه "وهذا الكتاب تعبير عن تقدير –يقول المؤلف- لا يخالف صورة الواقع. ومما لا ريب فيه أنني لم أشعر من قبل –إلا نادراً- أنني أحاور عبقرياً، كما شعرت وأنا أحاور ماركيز. حدثني طويلاً عن أقاصيص ما تزال في فكره، سيكتبها...، أقاصيص تبحر في أعماقه، ويعيشها في كل كلمة أو موقف، أو خلجة تصور، هو رجل بسيط، ذكي، لا يتحدث أكثر مما يجب، يزن حواره وزناً دقيقاً، دون أن يقتصد في الكلمات...
