تمتاز أبصال الزينة المزهرة عن باقي الزهور بعدة مميزات خصها بها الله سبحانه وتعالى، فهي أزهار صالحة للقطف وبديعة التنسيق وممكن زراعتها في الأحواض والحدائق الصخرية والحدائق العامة وفي التنسيق الداخلي وتحوي أواناً وأشكالاً وأحجاماً يعجز العقل البشر عن تصور ذلك.
وبالنظر لانعدام المصادر الحديثة في هذا الموضوع فقد اعتنى "مظفر أحمد داوود" بوضع كتابه هذا حول موضوع أبصال الزينة معتمداً في إعداد مادته على المصادر الأجنبية وجزء يسير من المصادر العربية إضافة إلى خبرته في هذا المجال سواء بالدراسة الأكاديمية أو من خلال عمله في عدة نواحي.
وبالعودة لمتن كتابه نجد أنه قد جمع فيه أكثر من مئتين وخمسين نوعاً من البصال الزينة المزهرة أو ما يعادل أكثر من مئة وعشرة أجناس من هذه الأبصال. حيث ذكر نوع كل بصلة ومواطنها الأصلي وطرق زراعتها ومواعيد الزراعة، وطرق تكاثرها، كما وأدرج صورة لها هذا إلى جانب اسمها باللغة الإنكليزية.
