ظاهرة ملفتة للنظر تتجلى في عودة الناس في البلدان العربية إلى علم من تلك العلوم التي برز فيها العرب في القرون الماضية، وكانوا رواداً فيها وحتى أساتذة للغرب الذي أخذ منهم وترجم كتبهم، كأساس لتطوير العلم الحديث، والعلم هو علم الفلك والنجوم. ويأتي هذا الكتاب ليساهم أيضاً إثارة اهتمام الناس بالفلك ورصد النجوم ومتابعة دورانها ليلاً بعد ليل. والمؤلف يأتي وبعد مقدمة عامة تذكر المعلومات والمصطلحات الأساسية المحتاج إليها لفهم تركيب الفلك وما يوجد ويحدث فيه، يأتي المؤلف على وصف المجموعات النجومية التي ترى فوق أفق الأردن والبلدان الواقعة على درجة عرضه تقريباً. لفظاً وتصويراً مما يسهل للراغب في ذلك متابعة كل هذه التفاصيل في واقع السماء، ولا يهل المؤلف، إلى جانب المعلومات الفلكية الحديثة، الناحية التاريخية للمادة، إذ يذكر عند كل مجموعة من مجموعات النجوم تلك الأساطير التي ألفها حولها اليونان والرومان القدماء، واضعو تلك الصور والمجموعات، وحول أسماء كثير من النجوم، وقد اعتمد المؤلف في وضع أطلس النجوم على كتاب "صور الكواكب الثمانية والأربعين" للفلكي العربي المسلم "أبي الحسين عبد الرحمن بن عمر الرازي" المعروف بالصوفي المتوفى سنة 986م، والحقيقة أنه أطلس ضخم عن أسماء النجوم وتشكيلاتها السماوية، ويعتمده المؤلفون أينما كانوا، بالإضافة إلى ذلك استخدم المؤلف بعض الأطالس الفلكية الأجنبية، والخرائط الفلكية بواسطة أجهزة الحاسوب.
