نشأت المحاسبة وتطورت كبقية العلوم الاقتصادية والاجتماعية، تلبية لأشكال وحاجات التقدم الاقتصادي والاجتماعي، وقد اجمع الباحثون والمهنيون على حد سواء على أن من اهم مقومات ارتقاء المحاسبة وضمان استمراريتها كعلم اجتماعي، هو قدرتها الدائمة على الاستجابة لمتطلبات التطورات المستجدة في دنيا الإعمال. حيث لا يزال الاطار النظري للمحاسبة يعاني النواقص وعدم الاكتمال فضلاً عن عدم مقدرته على تقديم إجابات للعديد من المشاكل المحاسبية العالقة، ومع زيادة مهمات وواجبات المحاسبة فقد اصبح من الضروري، لا سيما في التعليم الجامعي للمتخصصين في المحاسبة التعمق في دراسة النظرية المحاسبية وتطور الفكر المحاسبي ومواجهة المشاكل التي تطرح، وذلك بتقديم الحلول المناسبة لها. ونظراً لمحدودية البحوث والمؤلفات التي تعالج بعض المشاكل المحاسبية، فقد نبع اهتمامنا بتأليف هذا الكتاب لتمكين الطالب من ربط معلوماته السابقة في نظرة شمولية، ولكن لكثرة المواضيع المحاسبية وتشعبها فأنه يصعب احتوائها بشكل مرض في كتاب دراسي واحد، لذلك تم انتقاء الموضوعات التي رأيناها مهمة وهي في خمسة فصول كالآتي: يعالج الفصل الأول مشاكل المحاسبة عن تغيرات الأسعار ونماذج محاسبة القوة الشرائية الموحدة ونموذج المحاسبة عن الكلفة الجارية، بينما اهتم الفصل الثاني بمشاكل المحاسبة عن الموارد البشرية، وجاء الفصل الثالث ليوضح مشاكل المحاسبة عن المسؤولية الاجتماعية وأسس تميزها، القياس المحاسبي للأنشطة الاجتماعية، ثم تبعه الفصل الرابع ليبين مشاكل المحاسبة البيئية والطرق المحاسبية المقترحة لمعالجة التلوث البيئي. اما الفصل الخامس فقد خصص لمعالجة المشاكل المحاسبية عن ترجمة القوائم المالية في الشركات متعددة الجنسية.
