يقدم هذا الكتاب فكرة تامة عن الإعاقة الحركية والحسية حيث يتكلم في الوحدة الأولى عن النمو الذي هو سلسلة متتابعة ومتكاملة من التغييرات تسعى بالفرد إلى اكتمال النضج واستمراره ثم يشير إلى عناصر النمو وكذلك تفسير النوع والعدد والحجم والشكل وبناء الجسم والتوجه نحو النضج لينتقل بعدها إلى العوامل التي تؤثر في النمو كالوراثة والبيئة والفرد والغذاء والنضج والتعلم ويحدد القوانين العامة للنضج ويعدد مطالب النمو في مرحلة الطفولة والمراهقة وفي سن الرشد والشيخوخة ويعرج على مظاهر النمو. وفي الوحدة الثانية والثالثة يذكر الكتاب خصائص الأطفال المعاقين حركياً والخصائص الجسمية، النفسية، التربوية الاجتماعية، العصبية، التعليمية، المهنية والخصائص التدريبية ويركز على بعض التعريفات والمفاهيم الأساسية وما هي الإعاقة الحركية وأسبابها وطرق الوقاية منها والتطور التاريخي لتربية وتأهيل الأشخاص المعاقين حركياً ثم واقع خدمات الإعاقة في الأردن، ويتناول الشلل الدماغي في الوحدة الرابعة ماهيته وأسبابه، أهو مرض خاص بالأطفال حديثي الولادة أم أنه خلل يصيب المراكز الدماغية أو أنه مرض غير معدٍ قابل للشفاء أو يشتمل على خلل في العديد من الحركات الجسمية. وفي الوحدة الخامسة يذكر الكتاب الاضطرابات العصبية ذات العلاقة بالإعاقة الحركية كإصابات الحبل الشوكي والعمود الفقري المفتوح وشلل الأطفال وإصابات الرأس وينتقل إلى الاضطرابات العظمية كالوهن والتهاب المفاصل وهشاشة العظام والتقوس المفصلي والحدب وينتقل إلى نظام الكشف المبكر ومبررات التدخل المبكر والاعتبارات الخاصة بتقييم ذوي الإعاقات الحركية.
