Book Description
يعرف التآكل بأنه: (تلف المعادن نتيجة تفاعله كيمياوياً أو كهرويمياوياً مع الجو أو الوسط المحيط به)؛ ومن هنا فإن تلف المعادن نتيجة تأثير القوى الميكانيكية، الإحتكاك على سبيل المثال لا يسمى بالتآكل؛ السبب الأساسي لتأكل المعادن وإختلاف معادلات التأكل بين معدن وآخر، يعود إلى منشأ هذه المعادن وأصولها.
وإن التأثيرات التآكل تكون عادة على نوعين، يتمثل الأول في تلف أو فقدان المعدن كما هو الحال مع تآكل الحديد أو الفولاذ، الثاني عبارة عن تآكل موضعي يؤدي إلى تغيير السطح الخارجي للمعدن وخواصه مما يؤدي لاحقاً إلى حدوث تلف ميكانيكي مثل الكسر أو الفشل أو الإنهيار؛ ويشكل التآكل ومضاره وأساليب الحماية منه مشكلة هندسية مكلفة من المتوقع ان تزداد أهمية مع التطور السريع والمستمر الحاصل في الصناعات الهندسية.
وإن إفتقار المكتبة العراقية والمكتبة العربية بشكل عام إلى كتاب باللغة العربية عن التآكل وأنواعه وأساليب الحماية منه، كان السبب في تفكير المؤلفين في تأليف هذا الكتاب، واضعين نصب أعينهم تقديم خدمة متواضعة إلى هذه المكتبة؛ ولقد تم تقسيم الكتاب إلى أبواب أو فصول أساسية تتضمن ثلاثة حقول أساسية من ظاهرة التآكل، يقدم الحقل الأول مقدمة عن التآكل وأسبابه، والحقل الثاني يتعامل مع أنواع التآكل، والحقل الثالث مع أساليب الحماية من التآكل وإختبارات التآكل.
