تعد هذه المسرحية كوميديا كتبها جولد سميث، وقدمت على المسرح فى لندن عام 1773، و تعد من أروع مسرحيات القرن الثامن عشر التى تحتفظ بجاذبية دائمة، وما زالت تقدم على المسارح من وقت لآخر. بطلها شاب أرستقراطى مثقف يدخل قصر وجيه قروى على أنه فندق، فيبدو أنه يميل بقوة للتودد إلى نساء الطبقات الدنيا، فى حين يبدو خجولاً وعصبيًّا مع نساء الطبقة العليا التى ينتمى إليها. وتكتشف كاتى، ابنة صاحب القصر ذلك؛ فترتدى ملابس بسيطة كعاملة فى الفندق حتى وقع فى حبها وتزوجها.
