هؤلاء كلهم يؤكدون حاجة الإنسان للقصة والرواية، إذ أن بول أوستر يقول: "إن البشر بحاجة ماسة وملحة للقصص، ولاأبالغ إن قلت إن هذه الحاجة هي بقدر مايحتاجونه من الغذاء". هاروكي على السياق ذاته يقول: "الروائي يأتي بالحقيقة تحت المجهر، يسلّط عليها من جديد، وفي الكثير من الحالات يكاد يكون من المستحيل فهم هذه الحقيقة في شكلها الأصلي، وهنا يأتي الروائي ليجسدها ويعيد بعثها من جديد بشكل أكثر دقة. هذا هو السبب في أننا (معشر الروائيين) في محاولة دائمة لانتزاع أطراف الحقائق، نستدرجها لتمضي معنا فتختبئ في مكان جيد من القصّ". هؤلاء الروائيون بالطبع يستندون لمبررات حين يؤكدون أهمية القص في حياة الفرد، وأنا متأكد أن القارئ الكريم سوف يجد مبرراتهم مسوّغة
