من المفيد أن يجري تعريف للطالب المستجد في الدراسات المعمارية على تأريخ العمارة ونشوء الحركات المعمارية وتطورها. ولهذا الغرض فقد هيّأ هذا الموجز المصور لتأريخ العمارة، حيث اشتمل في فصله الأول على نبذة مختصرة عن تاريخ العمارة منذ نشوئها إلى نهاية القرن التاسع عشر، وفي الفصل الثاني عن الحركات المعمارية الحديثة، أما الفصل الثالث فقد خصص للتعريف برواد الحركات المعمارية الحديثة وعرض بعض أعمالهم، وفي الفصل الرابع والأخير كانت محاولة أولية لعرض العمارة العراقية الحديثة.
