إن الهدف الرئيسي لهذا الكتاب، هو تقديم نصوص واضحة ومفهومة ومباشرة للمواضيع الرئيسية في الاقتصاد الدولي، ويحتوي هذا الكتاب أيضاً على الكثير من المصطلحات الإنكليزية الدارجة والتي تساعد الطالب بالرجوع إلى المراجع الاقتصادية باللغة الإنكليزية.
ويوضح في هذا الكتاب (الاقتصاد الدولي) نظريات التجارة الدولية الكلاسيكية والحديثة والاختبارات التجريبية التي أجريت على بعض هذه النظريات، وكذلك تم عرض النمو الاقتصادي وأثره على التجارة وتحركات عوامل الإنتاج الدولية بالتفصيل،وكذلك تناول الاقراض الدولي وأزمة الديون العالمية، ثم الاستثمار في الأوراق المالية والاستثمار الأجنبي المباشر والشركات المتعددة الجنسيات، وقد خصص جزء من هذا الكتاب للسياسات التجارية وأدواتها وآثارها وأنواعها والسياسات الاستراتيجية التجارية، والفصل الخامس عشر قدم التكامل الاقتصادي وأشكاله وآثاره الاقتصادية وبعض تجاربه في دول أوروبا وأمريكا الشمالية والدول النامية، بالإضافة إلى ذلك قام بتوضيح ألجات وجولة الأرغواي ومنظمة التجارة العالمية والمنظمات الاقتصادية الدولية المرتبطة بالأمم المتحدة، مثل صندوق النقد الدولي للإنشاء والتعمير.
