ولدت استريد لندجرين في 14 نوفمبر 1907بمدينة فيمربيجنوب السويد،نشأت في بيئة تقدر القراءة لذلك تعرفت مبكرا على القصص والروايات الخيالية، أشهر قصصها بيبي ذات الجوارب الطويلة كلنا أطفال في برلين المفتش بلومكفيست ميو مني ميو كارلسون على السطح وبلغ إجمالى أعمالها 84 كتابا للأطفال وحوالى40 نصا سينمائيا،

هل استمعتم إلى المذياع في الخامس عشر من شهر أكتوبر / تشرين أول في العام الماضي؟... هل استمعتم إليهم يتساءلون عمّن شاهد الصبيّ الذي اختفى فجأة؟... هذا ما أذاعوه:
"يبحث رجال الشرطة عن الطفل كارل أندرز نيلسون البالغ من العمر ثمانية أعوام بعد أن اختفى فجأة من منزله الكائن في شارع نورث منذ الساعة السادسة مساء أول من أمس، كارل أندرز نيلسون ذو شعر أشقر وعينين زرقاوين، وفي وقت اختفائه كان يرتدي "بنطالاً" بنياً قصيراً "وكنزة" رمادية ويضع على رأسه قبعة حمراء، يرجى ممن رآه أو كان لديه أية معلومات عنه أن يتصل بأقرب مخفر للشرطة".
هذا ما قالوه، ولكن لم يتلقَ أحد أية معلومات عن كارل أندرز نيلسون، لقد اختفى تماماً ولا أحد يعرف مكانه....
هكذا تبدأ حكاية ميو، يا ولدي!..
