لم يهتز العالم فى تاريخه- ولا يزال- لكتاب كما فعل عند ظهور كتاب مايلز كوبلاند: (لعبة الأمم) الذي صدر فى عام 1969، ونفدت طبعته اللندنية الأولى فى ثلاثة ايام فقط، ويصور فيه الأمم كقطع شطرنج يجرى تحريكها من قبل وزارة الخارجية الأميركية، وبحسب سيناريوهات تتفق و (لعبة الأمم) عنوان كتابه. وإذا كان هذا هو حال العالم، فقد كان لكتاب كوبلاند بالنسبة للعرب وقع الزلزال، بعد أن اتهم فيه بعض زعمائهم بالخيانة، وآخرين منهم بالعمالة، وكشف فيه عن أسرار ديبلوماسية ما وراء الكواليس فى المنطقة العربية، واختراق المخابرات المركزية الأمريكية (سي. آي . إيه) لأنظمة الحكم فيها، وأظهر سلوك حكام ورجالات سياسة عرب فى صور مغايرة لما كان شائعا ومعروفاً عنهم قبل خروج كتابه للنور، وكان دوره المحوري فى الأحداث أو معايشته لما يجري، هو مصدر قورة الكتاب، الذي يثير إشكاليات كثيرة فى عالمنا العربي حتى يومنا هذا. لعبة الأمم كتاب مصنف (خطير جداً) لأنه يتضمن أسرارا تتعلق بأزمات سياسية بقيت فى طي النسيان، وزعامات زلزل الكتاب الأرض تحتها، ودفع البعض لإعادة تقييم مواقفها من الأحداث، التي شهدتها فترات حكمها!!
