فهي تدور بين شاب شرقي مسلم شيعي من القفقاس وبين فتاة مسيحية روسية من جورجيا. فالصراع هو في الاحتكاك بين العالمين، العالم الإسلامي الشرقي، والعالم المسيحي الأوروبي، ولذلك يتردد دائماً هذا السؤال: هل الحب هو الجسر الذي يستطيع أن يربط أوروبا وآسيا أو بعبارة أخرى هل عاطفة الحب مهما كانت قوية وصادقة قادرة على تذويب الفروق بين هذين الجانبين المتباينين؟ هذا هو المحور الذي يدور عليه القصة، وهو محور تبرز أهميته أكثر فأكثر نتيجة التزاوج الذي يحدث بكثرة في هذه الأيام بين العرب والأوروبيين.
وقد استطاع المؤلف أن يبرز نواحي كثيرة لا تخطر على البال، منها أن الشرقي الذي يعيش في عالم أوروبى تتولد عنده القدرة على الهروب بين الحين والآخر من واقعه الذي لا يتجاوب معه إلى عالمه الخاص الذي في أعماق نفسه، وثمة نقطة أخرى مهمة تظهرها هذه القصة وهي إلى أي مدى يستطيع الشرقي أن يتنازل عن عاداته وأسلوب معيشته وإلى أي حدّ يستطيع أن يحور منها ويغير بعضها قبل أن يتخطى الحد الفاصل ويتجاوز النطاق الذي يفصل المجتمع الأوروبي عن الشرقي.
