في هذا العمل يسعى "عماد سامي سلمان" الباحث والأخصائي في التطوير الذاتي إلى تحرير الذات الإنسانية من كل أدرانها، بغية اكتشاف كلَ منا ذاته الحقيقة التي سنجدها بين دفتي هذا الكتاب.
يبدأ الكتاب بتساؤلات تعد الإجابة عليها التحدي الأصعب في مسيرة حياة كل فرد وهي: من أنا؟ هل ما أظنه أنا هو فعلاً أنا؟ هل تصنيفات الآخرين، وآراؤهم بي، ونظرتهم إلي هي أنا؟ هل أنا فرد "مقولب" يخضع لمعايير اجتماعية ساهمت في قولبته؟، هل أفكاري ومعتقداتي، التي قاموا ببرمجتي عليها، هي أنا؟(...) هل هدف حياتي الأساس هو أن أكون إنساناً آلياً ضمن مجتمع آلي يقدس الآلات ويتنكر للحياة... وأخيراً ما هي مسؤوليتي في السعي للتحرر من ذاتي "النموذجية"، المزيفة، والمصطنعة لكي أصل إلى ذاتي الحقيقية الأصيلة التي لا تقبل الزيف.. ولا المصطنع؟
يعتبر مؤلف الكتاب أن مجتمعاتنا هي آلة نسخ عملاقة تنتج عبر السنين نسخاً بشرية "طبق الأصل". يكون الطفل المولود فيها صفحة بيضاء قبل أن "يطبعوا" عليها نسختهم الإجتماعية التي تناسبهم، فنرى معظم أفراد مجتمع ما، يشبهون بعضهم بعضاً بطريقة تصرفهم، إدراكهم، إيمانهم، ومسلكهم في الحياة. فيعمل أصحاب السلطة في المجتمع على نسخ معتقداتهم، قيمهم، أعرافهم، وقوانينهم، ومثلهم في الفرد من ولادته إلى نضجه ليصبح "نسخة طبق الأصل" عن "الطبعة الإجتماعية الأصلية". أما الذين لا يصح عليهم لقب "نسخة طبق الأصل" فإنهم يرفضون اجتماعياً كما ترفض الورقة المنسوخة التي لا تشبه تماماً النسخ الباقية، ويبعدون ببساطة، لأن هؤلاء الناس لديهم فكر نقدي مشاكس وليسوا تابعين (...) إن نزعة التطور والتغير كانت وما زالت الخطر الوحيد الذي يهدد منظومات الأنماط الموروثة والمنسوخة "كما هي": من الجد.. إلى الأب.. إلى الإبن.. إلى ابن الإين... فمقاومة التغيير في المجتمع تهدف بالدرجة الأولى إلى المحافظة على "النقاء النموذجي" لألية النسخ الإجتماعي".
