ولد محمد فوزي عام ١٩١٨، في وقت كانت فيه مصر على أعتاب التغيير، تلوح في الأفق ثورة شعبية عارمة، ويبدو على المدى حلم كبير بأن تصبح مصر للمصريين، ويبرز للعلن واقع فني يقوده موسيقيًا فنان الشعب سيد درويش، وكل من نجيب الريحاني ويوسف وهبي للمسرح ولهذا كان الجو مهيأ لاستقبال محمد فوزي بكل ما أتى به من تغيير حتى مع بعض الصعوبات التي يمكن أن تواجه كل صاحب طموح واختلاف.
وكغيره من نجوم زمانه، طالت سيرة حياة فوزي العبث والاستسهال، بل والافتئات أيضًا، من أول تاريخ ميلاده وحتى ملابسات وفاته، مرورًا بأهم الملفات في حياته: نشأته وبداياته العملية، زيجاته وعلاقاته النسائية، أصدقاؤه ومعاركه الفنية، مواقفه بين خصومه عبدالوهاب ومحبة أم كلثوم، ومواقف الآخرين منه بين وفاء فريد الأطرش وذكاء عبدالحليم حافظ، نقاط تماسه مع السياسةورجالها، وبخاصة الرئيسان: محمد نجيب وجمال عبدالناصر، مصنع أسطواناته وحقيقة مادار حوله، ثم مرضه الغامض وموقف الدولة منه.
