تَرَكَت مَدرَسةُ «سينما المؤلِّف» تَأثيرَها الكَبيرَ عَلى عَدَدٍ كَبيرٍ مِن مُخرِجي السِّينما المصرِيَّةِ والسِّينما العَرَبِيَّةِ بِوَجْهٍ عامٍّ. هَذِهِ المدْرَسَةُ تُرَسِّخُ فِكْرَةَ أَنَّ الفيلمَ يَجِبُ أَنْ يُنْسَبَ إِلى مُخْرِجِه، وَأَنَّه إِذا كانَ المخْرِجُ هُوَ الَّذي يُسَيْطِرُ عَلى الجَوانِبِ الفَنِّيَّةِ المختِلَفَةِ، وصاحِبُ الرَّأيِ الأَوِّلِ في مُكَوِّناتِ الصُّورَةِ والصُّوتِ في الفيلْمِ، هُنا يُصْبِحُ المخْرِجُ مُؤَلِّفًا مِثْلُه في ذَلِكَ مِثْلُ الأَديبِ، سَواءً اشْتَرَكَ في كِتابَةِ السِّيناريو، أَوْ لَمْ يَشْتَرِكْ. وَلِكَي يَكونَ المخْرِجُ مُؤَلِّفًا لأَفلامِهِ؛ أَيْ فَنَّانًا مُبْدِعًا، يَجِبُ أَنْ يَكونَ صاحِبَ رُؤْيَةٍ خاصَّةٍ، وَأَنْ يَحْمِلَ الفيلمُ بَصْمَتَهُ الشَّخصيَّة، تمامًا كما في حالَةِ الرُّوائِيِّ والشَّاعِرِ والرَّسَّامِ والموسيقيِّ، هُنا يُصْبِحُ الفيلمُ كالرُّوايَةِ والقَصيدَةِ والَّلوْحَةِ التَّشكيليَّة والمقطوعَةِ الموسيقيَّةِ. وهَذا الكِتابُ يُسَلِّطُ الضَّوْءَ عَلَى أَساليبِ وأَعْمالِ 40 مُخْرِجًا من كِبارِ السِّينمائيِّين في العالَمِ الَّذين يَنْتَمون لمدرسَةِ «سينما المؤَلِّف». ويَبْحَثُ مُؤَلِّفُه من خِلالِ مَنْهَجِه الخاصِّ الجَماليِّ النَّقديِّ، كَيفَ تَعامَلَ هؤلاءِ المخْرِجون مَعَ الفيلمِ كَأَداةٍ فَنِّيَّةٍ لِلتَّعبيرِ عَن مَوْقِفٍ فِكْرِيٍّ وفَلْسَفيٍّ، سواءً انْطَلقوا مِن الذَّاتِيِّ وصولًا إِلى الموضوعيِّ، أَوْ مِن الموْضوعِيِّ ارْتِدادًا إِلى الذَّاتيِّ، فَلَيْسَ من الممْكِنِ الفَصْلُ بَيْنَ المسْتَوَيَيْن، خُصوصًا أَنَّ ما يُمَيِّزُ المُخْرِجَ صاحِبَ الرُّؤْيَةِ الفَنِّيَّةِ أَنَّه عادَةً ما يَكونُ مَشْغولًا بِمُحاوَلَةِ فَهْمِ العالَمِ والكَشْفِ عَنْهُ والتَّأَمُّلِ في بَعْضِ أَلْغازِهِ، حَتَّى لَوْ كانَ يَنْطَلِقُ في بَحْثِهِ الـمُرْهِقِ مِنْ طُفولَتِهِ، مِنْ عَلاقَتَهِ بِأُسْرَتِهِ، مِنْ مُحيطِهِ الاجْتِماعِيِّ، أَوْ مِنْ مَوْقِفِهِ الفَلْسَفِيِّ.
