لقد نقلَ لنا الناقد الأدبي السويسري أوتوو بازلر ( 1902 - 1984 ) طرفة نادرة. فقد كانت تربطه علاقة صداقة حميمة مع الشاعرين {توماس مان وهيرمان هيسه} حتى أنهما زاراه في بيته في آرغاور. فعندما وقفَ توماس مان على عتبة داره في 6 يوليو 1950 رحبَ به اوتوو بازلر بمقولة شيلر: «يا لهذا الضيف العزيز الوفي الذي لم يطأ هذه العتبة رجلٌ أفضل منه»، عندها تمهل هذا وسحب قدمه من العتبة وأجابه بمكر: «ولكن قل لي يا صديقي العزيز ألم يزرك هيرمان هيسه قبل مدة وجيزة؟ » فأجابه أوتوو بازلر: «نعم حدث ذلك ولكنه دخل الدار من الجانب الآخر. » رد توماس مان بعد إن دخل مباشرةً: «هكذا إذاً!»
