تعدُّ القراءات المتواترة ـــ على اختلاف لهجاتها ـــ كنوزًا من العلم والمعرفة؛ وهي أداة مهمة من أدوات التفسير التي توضح المعنى، وتبين الحكم الفقهي، وتحدد الإعراب، وتؤكد الإعجاز القرآني. ومعلوم أن الظواهر القرائية مختلفة، ومع كثرة هذا الاختلاف وتنوعه لم يتطرق إليه تضاد ولا تناقض ولا تخالف. ومن بين الظواهر القرائية ظاهرة "حروف المعاني" التي يتناوب بعضها مكان بعض، بحسب القراءات المختلفة، أو يثبت بعضها على قراءة ويحذف على قراءة أخرى. فدراسة حروف المعاني وعلاقتها بالقراءات جانب مهم من الجوانب التي يحتاج إليها المفسر، ليتسنى له إدراك معاني هذه الحروف وما تحمله من دلالات وإيحاءات. ومن أجل ذلك فقد أظهر الكتاب هذه الأمور مع ضرب بعض الأمثلة من النماذج القرآنية، وبيان ما فيها من قراءات متواترة تتعلق بشأن حروف المعاني ودلالاتها التفسيرية . وقد حرص المؤلف على أن يكون الكلام ميسورًا لا تعقيد فيه؛ ورجع في كل فن يتعلق بهذا الموضوع إلى أشهر مؤلفاته، وأضاف ما فتح الله تعالى به عليه وأجراه على قلمه.
