هذا الكتاب عبارة عن رسالتين نفيستين للإمام اللكنوي: الأولى :"تحفة الأخيار بإحياء سُنة سيد الأبرار"عبارة عن دراسة خصصها المؤلف لتعريف السنة النبوية المطهرة وهي مبنية على ثلاثة أصول: الأصل الأول: تعريف السنة النبوية المطهرة وأن من مشمولها سنة الخلفاء الراشدين والصحابة الهادين المهديين، وساق في ذلك جملة كبيرة من الأحاديث ، وذكر كل ما يتصل بثبوتها ومعناها من كلام المحدثين والفقهاء بإسهاب. الأصل الثاني: تعريف (السنة المؤكدة) ومطلق السنة في مصطلح الفقهاء السادة الحنفية، وأورد أقوال اثنين وعشرين فقيهًا في تعريفها، وناقشها جميعًا، وذكر من خلال ذلك فوائد فرائد من كتب الحنفية وغيرهم. الأصل الثالث: حكم السنة المؤكدة، وتركها، وأورد فيه جملة كبيرة من أقوال العلماء، ثم ناقشها على طريقته بالدقة والاستقصاء. وفي الخاتمة والتي هي محور الكتاب ذكر الأخبار الواردة في صلاة التراويح، واستقصاها ما استطاع، وشرح معناها وعلق عليها، ونقل أقوال أصحاب المذاهب الأربعة فيها. أما الرسالة الثانية فهي تأتي تحت عنوان " نخبة الأنظار على تحفة الأخيار" وهي عبارة عن حاشية وضعها الإمام المصنف على الرسالة الأولى، أورد فيها تراجم المذكورين في التحفة ، وكشف القناع عن أحوال الكتب المذكورة فيها، وزينها بالفوائد النفيسة الفرائد المندرجة فيها.
