"القزم" هي مجموعة من القصص القصيرة الخيالية للكبار. قام "بروكوبييف" باقتباس القصص الخيالية المشهورة ورسم حولها أشخاصًا وأحداثًا من خياله هو، لنجد نفسنا دائمًا بين عالمٍ خيالي نعرفه من طفولتنا، وعالم الكبار الذي دخلناه في كبرنا. مثلًا، سنجد قصة "عقلة الإصبع"، حيث تعاني الشخصية الأساسية من عقدة أوديب ومن علاقته بأمه، أو شخصية "الصيَّاد" من قصة "سنو وايت والأقزام السبعة"، حيث يحكي لنا الصياد قصة الأميرة الجميلة وخروجه لقتلها من وجهة نظره هو. بعض القصص الأخرى تعود في أصولها إلى القصص الشعبية المقدونية والتي أعطى فيها "بروكوبييف" لنفسه حرية تغييرها كما يريد .
