في هذا الكتاب يتوقف الدكتور محمد المفرح، استشاري الجهاز الهضمي والقولون، عند محطات مهمّة في حياته العلمية والعملية.
بدأ الدكتور المفرح هذه السيرة وتوقف طويلًا في المكان الذي شهد ولادته، مدينة الزلفي (وسط نجد) مُشبعًا المكان بمزيد من التفاصيل المهمة ذات الصلة بالأوضاع الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والتعليمية.
توقف المفرح في مدينة الرياض لعدة سنوات، حيث نال فيها شهادة الكفاءة المتوسطة وعمل موظفًا في وزارة الصحة، قبل أن يغادر إلى خارج السعودية، إلى ألمانيا، ضمن أول بعثة سعودية لدراسة الطب في ألمانيا.
حازت جامعة برلين الحرّة، والحياة في ألمانيا، وزملاء الرحلة العلمية على صفحات ممتدة عبر هذا الكتاب، لتكون العودة إلى أرض الوطن.
لم يكتفِ المفرح، رغم عشقه وولعه بالطب منذ صغره، بممارسة الطب وحده، فقد شغل مناصبَ إدارية قيادية، فعمل مديرًا عامًا للشؤون الصحية بمنطقة القصيم، ثم مديرًا لمستشفى الشميسي (مدينة الملك سعود الطبية حاليًا)، وهو المنصب الذي عُرف واشتهر به لسنوات عدة، قبل أن يتفرّغ لعمله الخاص في عيادته الطبيّة الخاصة.
هذا الكتاب يُمثّل وثيقة مهمّة في العمل الإداري والطبي على حد سواء.
