تستمدّ هذه الرسالة أهميتها من أهمية الموضوع المتمثل في تاريخ مكة المكرمة، الذي يهمّ كل مسلم على وجه هذه البسيطة. إضافةً إلى ذلك، فإن مؤلفها الشيخ عبد الله بن محمد بن عبد الوهاب ليس مجرد عالم من علماء الدعوة الإصلاحية، بل إنه عالم متميّز وابن للشيخ محمد بن عبد الوهاب. ومما يزيد في أهمية الرسالة، من وجهة نظر المؤرخين، أن الشيخ عبد الله بن محمد يُعدّ من أبرز رجالات قائد الجيش الأمير سعود بن عبد العزيز، وقد كان مرافقًا للجيش السعودي أثناء وجوده في الطائف حتى دخول مكة المكرمة، ومطّلعًا على ما جرى بين الطرفين من مكاتبات ومفاوضات، وكما يقال: ليس من رأى كمن سمع. وهكذا فقد كان يكتب عن قرب بصفته شاهد عيان، بل ومشاركًا في صنع الأحداث، إذ إنّه جزء من الدائرة الأولى لصنع القرارات والتوجيهات، ولذا فهو مطلع على كثير من التطورات السياسية والعسكرية التي واكبت تقدم الجيش أثناء مسيره من الطائف حتى دخل مكة المكرمة.
